Jordan Thomas

Jordan is the Finance and Development Coordinator. With a strong background in nonprofit fundraising, she is excited to secure vital resources to support abolitionist initiatives and community-led solutions in Durham. Jordan came into social justice organizing through university-led movements around policing and white supremacy on college campuses. After college, she became involved in Durham electoral organizing, which ultimately led her to organizing with DBP. In her free time, Jordan likes to watch early 2000s teen dramas, spend time with loved ones, and dive deep into a wide variety of arts and crafts!

Latisha Facyson

Latisha is the East Durham Community Design District Organizer, she is a Durham native of 44 years a mother of 3.

Nhawndie Smith

Nhawndie is the Interim Co-Director. They are a Black, queer, trans, Southerner and angelic troublemaker based in Durham, North Carolina. Nhawndie entered into social justice movements over 10 years ago – organizing in local movements around police violence, anti-LGBTQ policy, voting rights and accessible higher education. Nhawndie is a trainer, organizer, and weaver of back-end operations for the sake of building our collective capacity to practice caring, accountable and generative leadership. In their personal time Nhawndie is usually cooking and dancing with their people or playing the drums.

Poet Williams

Poet is the Interim Co-Director. Poet is a formerly incarcerated, directly-impacted, Indigenous Black man born and raised in Durham, NC. He has been an organizer, advocate, and restorative justice facilitator-practitioner for 10+ years. Poet actively organizes in local, statewide, and national movements and actions working to provide alternatives to law enforcement and the court systems in real-time. He is a writer, poet, musical artist, visual artist, jewelry maker, healer/sage/wizard, and earth-bender. Poet enjoys making music, working with youth, and creating space for healing, growing and expansion to take place.

Shanise Hamilton

Shanise is the People’s Policy and Base-building Coordinator. Shanise grew up in Durham’s foster care system and fought her way through it. In 2018, she stepped into her power as a community organizer in her hometown of Durham, walking the same path as legendary ‘Bull City’ leaders like Umar Muhammad and Omisade Burney-Scott. She’s held transformative roles such as: advisory member for the Transformative Justice League, member of the Community Safety and Wellness Task Force, campaign coordinator for Satana Deberry’s reelection as District Attorney, PAC Treasurer for the Committee on the Affairs of Black People, and is a leader in the Have A H.E.A.R.T Coalition. She does this work for her son, family and community—in honor of her ancestors. Shanise believes that our communities deserve safe spaces, and knows that we have to create more of them, especially in the places we’ve been told we don’t belong.
